------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Sep 25 18:51:18 -0700 2006 ------- After installing OO 2.0.3 I imported my Excel spreadsheet into Calc without a problem. It all seemed to work correctly. Very Nice. In this spreadsheet (ss) I had 2 columns of numbers (although in Excel they may have been formatted as Text) that I used as memory aids and no calcs were performed on them. But then I decided to modify my ss and started adding simple functions that summed these numbers and then multiplied them by a 3rd cell and in almost every case I got a value of zero. I finally figured out that all the values in the 2 columns mentioned above must be formatted as text and as such were apparently being resolved to a numerical value of zero when referenced in another cell's equation. Group selection of this area of cells (approx 2x20 in size) and then setting their format to type Number had no effect. My equation cells still evaluated to zero as if the numbers didn't exist in the referenced cells. When I cut and "pasted special" the group of cells for type numbers only most cells didn't copy. But they would all copy if using type number and strings. So I was able to verify that repeated attempts to reformat this block of cells had all failed. The only way I could finally solved the problem was to manually re-enter all the values in those cells (i.e if the cell showed 32 I retyped 32 into the cell.) And this solved the problem. Update: After going back to the ss to try different combinations of group reformatting, I noticed something important. If a problem cell showed 32 and I placed the selection box on it, then in the equation bar it showed as '32. I'm rather new to Calc so I'll have to look around in help, but my guess is that this is some sort of force text or comment character? So this is perhaps an importing problem then? I know I never typed anything like this into my old Excel 2003 Student & Teacher Edition spreadsheet (I had a 60 day trial that expired -hence my installation of OO. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
