But does the SO8 installer really require java? So what is the sense that it
provides to install java vm (if it works)?

If yes, I guess that 64BIT linux is the reason. I have read that Sun only
provides 32bit java. But if this is true, what means "Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit
Server VM"?
