OS: Scientific Linux 4.4 (derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.x sources,
like CentOS).

Printer: HP Deskjet 3745. It has 2 cartridges, one black and one colour.

HP provides a utility that reports about how much remaining ink each cartridge
has.

The bug:

I was printing a document yesterday, when I found out that after some printing
in (soft) black text, the rest of the text was printing in green. I made sure
for some times that the characters in Writer were in (dark) black, but the issue
persisted. However the green text printing was starting at different lines
sometimes.

Puzzled from this, I checked few times the HP utility that reports about how
much ink there is on each cartridge, and both the black one and the colour one
were low.

I placed a new black cartridge and found out that the problem persisted. After
few black lines, the rest of characters were printed in green. Then I realised
that it was using the colour cartridge for the black, and not the black
cartridge!

When I changed the printer settings in OpenOffice.Org 2.1 Writer and selected
"Normal Greyscale (Black cartridge)" instead of the preselected "Normal (Color
cartridge) in "Device::Resolution::Printout Mode", the dark black text was
printed in dark black well, by obviously using the new black cartridge.

So in summary, the bug is that the black text is printed by using the colour
cartridge instead of the black one!
