If OOo is installed on a Windows XP machine under an administrative account
(member of Administrators Group), AND the install is set to apply to "all users"
on that PC, AND the account used to install OOo 2.1 is then demoted to an
ordinary User Group account (non-administrator), AND you reboot, then the user
can no longer access any of the OOo OpenDocument default file extensions (like
ODT and ODS).

My scenario for encountering this problem was that I don't like running Windows
in Admin user mode (I'm an IT InfoSec professional). So I typically elevate my
user account to Administrator Group for installation, then I demote myself back
to plain User Group member. (I have other Administrator accounts that I don't
use to run any programs). After doing this, I noticed that none of my OOo
extensions worked. But as soon as I elevated my user account back to Admin
level, the extensions worked fine.

After unsuccessful attempts at tweaking my Windows registry, here's the
workaround I figured out: 1) Uninstall OOo. 2) Re-install OOo and SELECT SINGLE
USER OPTION. 3) Assuming you installed as an Admin user, you can then deminish
yourself back to a user account, and voila! all the OOo links work as promised.

Besides fixing my problem, this workaround also preserved all my OOo program
settings, so I didn't have to recreat them. Cool beans.
