It happens quite often but not always.

I select a text that was previously formatted. Let's say the text is assigned
default style and has been underlined. I assign header 2 to the text, either by
placing my cursor in the paragraph or by selecting the text. Then, sometimes, I
see the number in front of the header in the correct size, but the text remains
in the smaller size.

I have attached an example. This kind of behaviour: applying a style doesn't
quite work, happens all the time in OpenOffice and is IMHO its biggest 
shortcoming.
