Well, extensions run within the soffice process (except during live deployment)
for performance and compatibility reasons. One could of course run all
extensions (that is the code parts of an extensions) in a separate process, but
this would not work for many extensions which depend directly (link) on other
office libraries (for example, vcl). That is all extensions which do not use
strictly UNO interfaces.
OTH a user should refrain anyway from development versions. For a developer it
is even helpful when the office crashes since it indicates a bug.
I think this is nice to have but definitely no P2. I would also call this a
feature.
