Discussion with ka yielded:
Contrary to my original belief image/png and image/jpeg are not yet supported by
OOo's clipboard, which explains why the interaction with java apps fails. ka has
another issue for this. I'll keep this issue for dealing with the image/bmp
problem, namely that OOo should not ask for PIXMAP if image/bmp is available.
