in xml, multiple whitespace characters are treated as one, so there is no way to
have multiple spaces within the Writer document without encoding it with the
text:s with count tags. So if you have a document that behaves like that and
doesn't have that tag, then please add it to this (or another) issue.

And for removing the spaces, you of course don't need to modify the xml files
themselves, just using del or backspace will work as well, same goes for using
search and replace.

To prevent this situation in the first place, you can set the AutoCorrect option
to ignore multiple spaces (this will prevent somebody from falling asleep on the
spacebar, but it will still be possible to add multiple spaces after each other)
