Phenomenon: 
 It is hard to explain this phenomenon in a written text. 
 Could you please have a look at a snapshot?

 This phenomenon was once reported in the issue 24508, which was considered 
 an invalid issue. The workaround described in the issue, however, might 
 not be a good solution. Every time, a user has to manually change Text-to-text 
 alignment from Automatic to Base line whenever a user applies a ruby text 
 in vertical writing. 

Attempt to solve this phenomenon:
 I have just made a patch to attempt to solve this phenomenon. 
 The patch is based on the source code of OpenOffice.org 2.3.0. 
 Could you please evaluate it?
