This activity is caused by setting the DNS address on the network interface to
the address of the router/gateway. In my experience this is a common method of
setting up a network, being simple to administer.

The workaround is to set the DNS addresses on the network interface of the PC to
the DNS addresses supplied by the ISP.

Openoffice still does two DNS lookups on the host name at start up but receives
a "Standard query response, No such name" to both at a cost of approximately
0.035 seconds on each.

It is not clear why these DNS lookups occur, they seem to serve no purpose, to
resolve the issue it may be possible to remove this piece of code.
