Using Auto Update worked better going from 2.3 to 2.4. Perhaps I had OOo open
long enough for the download to complete.

The installer insisted that not only OOo 2.3 be closed up front, but eventually
that IE 7 be closed (in the verification phase). This was confusing at first
because I had three tabs open and could only see one referenced, although, had
I scrolled the text, I would doubtless have seen all three. Since it required
IE to be closed when IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes were open, perhaps it would be
clearer if the Web pages beeing seen were not listed, but just the name of the
browser that needs to be closed.

The installer installed JRE1.6.0_04 even though I have JRE1.6.0_05 installed.
Does OOo not work with JRE1.6.0_05? I imagine it does, and needs to recognize
when the user has a higher level already installed so that it does not install
a superfluous lower level. Note that Auto Update does /not/ give you any
choices as to whether or not a JRE is needed; either the installer needs to
check or the user needs to be asked. Although, when you think about it, the
chances of an Auto Update needing to install a JRE (that is, of a prior version
being used without a JRE) is both very small and almost certainly detectable.

The download location was correct the first time, most likely because the
change I made earlier (see prior report) was still in effect.

So, it's getting better. Or, I'm using it more effectively. Whichever. The
browse and JRE issues still need work.
