------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Jul 21 07:02:54 +0000 2008 ------- Sometimes notes aren't necessarily tied to a specific word or character in a document, and may be applicable to the document as a whole or to a specific section within the document. In these scenarios, editing the text where the note is attached can be tricky since it is easy to accidentally delete the character the note is attached, or if you want to rewrite the sentence and not use that word at all and you must carefully try to reuse the specific character the note is attached to in the rewrite or you must copy the contents of the note to the clipboard, delete the note, edit the text as desired (and avoid use of the clipboard), create a new note, and finally paste the clipboard's contents into the newly created note. If an option were added to not automatically delete notes when their linked text is deleted, this would prevent accidental deletions (as well as being an acceptable alternate solution to the problem posed in issue #89358). A user would still be able to explicitly delete notes by using the drop-down menu on the note. If the character a note is attached to is deleted (by any means, such as word delete, selected text stream delete, selected stream replace, etc.), the note could simply relocate to the next (to the right) available character, or the preceding (to the left) available character if at the end of the document. Personally, I would prefer this behavior no matter what, but for legacy reasons and to allow the preferences of others, this functionality might be best implemented as a preference that can be toggled on and off. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
