After testing, apparently (sorry, I'm not a native speaker!) it looks like
"gauge" is the Britsh word for American English "gage" (after googling on "gauge
+'British English'")...
By default, the "English" builds of OOo come up with US spelling.
You may not have noticed it.
Please check in which language your default documents (Tools - Options -
Language Settings - Languages) and the character language (Format - Character)
is formatted.
