It wasn’t on two different tables. It was on two different spreadsheets. It put
the name to the cell in spreadsheet #2 corresponding to where it was on
spreadsheet #1.
I did copy the table over from one spreadsheet to another, but once in a
different spreadsheet, the name should have been allowed to be assigned to a
cell in the spreadsheet that the table was moved to instead of naming the
corresponding cell. Even so, I should have been able to un-name the cell and
give the name to the cell of choice in the second spreadsheet. Failing the name
change, I should have been able to delete the name from the drop-down box like
it was designed to. I right-clicked on the name, it gave ‘delete’ as an option.
It seemed to go away, but returned as soon as I moved focus to another cell.
Thank you for pointing out where the Name organizer is. Looking up ‘name cell’
calls up a lot of the naming functions in help, but does not make reference
anywhere to single cells. I suppose this is my error for not interpreting
‘selected areas’ to include just one cell. To me, this made it look as if Insert
> Names only applied to ranges, not individual cells. In fact, the Names >
Create box does not take into account the naming of a single cell. Now that I
know different it makes sense.
