The relevant OSX documentation says:
ascent: The maximum height from the baseline to the ascent line of the glyphs
in the font. For vertical
text, the maximum distance from the center line to the ascent line of the
glyphs in the font.
descent: The maximum distance from the baseline to the descent line of the the
glyphs in the font. For
vertical text, the maximum distance from center line to the descent line of the
glyphs in the font.
leading: The spacing from the descent line to the ascent line below it. This
defines the spacing between
lines of text
so we interpret the leading value provided by OSX as the external leading. For
Helvetica there seems to
be some ink (the dots) inside that external leading though. Not sure how to
proceed.
@fme: is extending the line clipping bounds to an additional external leading a
simple workaround?
