Looking at your comments in the OpenSolaris Bugzilla it looks like package
problem (framework). I can tell if the issue is on our side or OpenSolaris...

I was thinking a bit about this yesterday as I was moving it over...

The OpenOffice packages on OpenSolaris are derived from the SVR4
packages. One of the things that the package manager doesn't do at
install time on OpenSolaris, is run any scripts (such as postinstall
scripts). 

Now I was wondering whether there was such a postinstall script for 
OpenOffice and whether it didn't anything to setup spell checking. 
If there is, then you will need to work out what the equivalent 
actions are in the OpenSolaris world.

Just a thought. It might be something else completely.
