------- Additional comments from [email protected] Fri Sep 4 04:15:58 +0000 2009 ------- I had manually replaced Common.xcu with larger 2.4.1 file (See previous issue report Posted as Issue 104772 under All). 1. Tried to close Help after I opened it and it displayed my previously customized 2.4.1 Bookmarks: 1.1. Using upper righthand "x" button. 1.2. The only other application open was two instances of W2K Windows Explorer. 2. PC froze at 100% CPU cycles. 3. When opened Writer again, I got dialog that said ...common.xcu corrupted.... Do I want to continue opening ? 3.1. A side issue: 3.1.1. In all versions since 2.3.1 -- my first -- whenever I got a corrupted file dialog, clicking NO button continually brings back the same dialog box again and again. 3.2. I clicked YES button and let Writer open. 4. All Bookmarks missing. 5. Closed Writer. 6. Replaced Common.xcu (then 3KB) with a backup file from 2.4.1 (67KB). 6.1. Common.xcu.bak file was indeed corrupted and equaled between 54 and 48 KB. 7. Opened Writer. 7.1. Opened Help and Bookmarks were displayed again. 8. Tried workaround by closing entire Writer: 8.1. Using upper righthand "x" button. 8.2. After processing for approximately a second in time and near 100% CPU cycles, I got a BLACK SCREEN: 8.2.1. Not a BSOD. 9. Opened Writer. 9.1. Got no Corrupt file dialog box. 9.2. Bookmarks missing when I opened Help. 9.3. Common.xcu was now 43 KB, instead of previous 3 KB. 9.4. Closed Help without problem. Side issue: 1. I noticed that Help Find tab does not work: 1.1. Dialog box said I need JRE. 1.1.1. I did not install OOo version with JRE: 1.1.1.1. I had too much trouble with JRE in the past. 2. If I remember correctly, past OOo versions did not require Help Find tab to use JRE in order to work: 2.1. In any event, it should not require JRE for such a comparatively simple search routine: 2.1.1. Particularly when I can avoid JRE my utilizing My SQL instead of the "Base" database -- and so forth. In the meantime, I'm going back to version 2.4.1: 1. Which, incidently, has a less severe problem with Writer Help Bookmarks: 1.1. I expect the following would still be a problem in 3.0.0, if I could have gotten that far. 1.2. Closing Help: 1.2.1. With Bookmarks always results in 100% CPU cycles for more than a second of time: 1.2.1.1. Doing this should not require such extreme CPU processing, in my opinion. 1.2.2. After EACH new bookmark is added, generally results in it not being lost. 1.2.2.1. But the 8th time I do this results in a BSOD. 1.2.3. With as many as three new bookmarks, or modified bookmark descriptions, results in them not being lost: 1.2.3.1. Even with these applications open: 1.2.3.1.1. Three instances of Windows Explorer. 2. Write. 3. Firefox, with an additional window for the "Download Them All" download manager extension. 4. Foxit (Free alternative to Adobe Acrobat). 1.2.3.2. Seems to make no difference whether or not actually dial-up connected to Internet: 1.2.3.2.1. But if downloading at the time, I get a 100%-CPU-cycles PC freeze. 1.2.4. With more than three new bookmarks, or modified bookmark descriptions, results in only one or two of these being retained: 1.2.4.1. The rest of them are permanently lost: 1.2.4.1.1. However, all the previous bookmarks are retained. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
