Most of what you told me is as I expected.

It's not MAC specific only because MAC key board keys are "painted" a little
different ;-)  
Other OS have correspondent hot keys.

The last and most interesting question is: does your 'Command/Apple/⌘' button
work in other applications in the 'File/open' or 'File/Save' dialogue in the
file name pane? 

WIN dos not support that hot key in the file name pane of those dialogs (but the
context menu 'select all' will work as expected), and so, of course, it will not
be supported if OOo uses that button-function.

It's without interest here whether that hot key works in a WRITER text or in a
WEB page shown with Firefox. The interesting question is, whether it works (for
example)  if you
0. Open a web-URL with Firefox
1. Menu 'File -> Save as'
2. Enter some file name in file name pane of dialog, if pane is empty
3. press 'Command/Apple/⌘' button (or corresponding hot key for your OS)
   expected: ...., because .....
   actual:
