The computer teacher uses hyperlinks to websites for the students to use while filling out worksheets. When the hyperlink is open via Ctrl+click, the web browser is opened, but then the UI for OpenOffice (in this case Writer, but the same behavior is exhibited in Impress as well - didn't try the other components) freezes and the students are unable to switch between applications. This is on Ubuntu 9.04 with Edubuntu suite, using the latest packages from the PPA repository: http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu.
