This sounds like you tested using a SMB share hosted on a Unix/Linux/AIX server. This is not my infrastructure: I'm using a native Windows server. This might be of relevance as there are different (not 100% compatible) locking strategies on Unix/Linux (clients) and Windows (server and client).
