Hi,

I recently ran into a program that allowed me to import and export comma
separated value files to edit the documentation for a project. I used OOo to
edit the csv and then tried to import the OOo edited .csv back into the program.
I ended up corrupting the project (which isn't all OOo's fault), and so I had
track down the reason. It turned out to be that when OOo saved the .csv, it had
four columns in it which looked like:

"X0","BLR_1_AVAIL","","Auto start mode selected for boiler 1"

The problem is that the third column is null. When OOo saved the file, it saved
it as:

"X0","BLR_1_AVAIL",,"Auto start mode selected for boiler 1"

It didn't put the quotes around the null value which is what ended up causing
the problem in the other program. It makes sense to me that if a text delimiter
is selected, each field, whether null or not, should get the chosen delimiter.
I don't mean to stir the pot, so if someone can give concrete reasons why this
shouldn't be the case, I'm up to hear the argument, but as of now I have found
at least one program that requires the M$ way which is to delimit all fields,
including null ones and it makes good sense to me that OOo should do the same.

Thanks,

Mike E.
