------- Additional comments from [email protected] Thu Mar 18 14:52:56 +0000 2010 ------- CONTEXT : openoffice 3.20 official (final stable release), french version, on Windows Vista sp2 32 bits, French platform. THE PROBLEM : ------------- To number some titles with a non standard numbering scheme, in the context of a "multipart" document built from a master document and some individual chapters, I defined -chapter by chapter- : - a set of customized title styles (for ex chapter1_Title1, chapter1_Title2) - a customized numbering scheme (for ex, in chapter1, it will look like 'ch1/1.2.3') When applying one of my level>1 title styles to a paragraph, my numbering is not automatically matching the proper hierarchical level given to the style. Instead it is only reflecting the level 1 hierarchic level, whatever my title style is (chapter1_Title2 for ex). Of course I set properly the hierarchical level in my styles (level 1 for chapter1_Title1, level 2 for chapter1_Title2 ). A piece of explanation and (painful) workaround: ------------------------------------------------ when applying my style "chapter1_Title2" I can observe that in fact the paragraph does not get the proper hierarchical level (I can see this by definig different indentations for different styles). The workaround is to use the "bullets and numbering" horizontal arrow controls to move up or down the parargraph a level until having the proper level and then the proper "automatic" numbering". Nota 1 : with standard styles and associated numbering (tools/numbering), applying a style ALSO adapts accordingly the level in the hierarchy and then the numbering. With customized title styles, this automatic adaptation of title level and numbering unfortunately DOES NOT happen. This is the bug. Nota 2 : styles are aimed to automatic formatting. This bug obliges anyone to modify by hand a property that is already defined in the style, possibly leading to some inconsistency. HOW TO REPRODUCE : ------------------ go in "format and styles", to define new title styles, eg "MyTitle1" and "MyTitle2", respectively with hierarchical level 1 and level 2. Create also a list numbering scheme for a series of 10 levels of a hierarchy. Call this scheme "MyNumeringScheme". Let us define it like this : prefix "YYY-", and then a classic numerical "1.1." automatic numbering reflecting the level in the hierarchy. Apply this numbering scheme as a property of your styles "MyTitle1" and "MyTitle2". Now go in the doc, type something as normal text. Give that text the style "MyTitle2" : you will see your text becoming "YYY-1 bla bla" instead of "YYY-1.1 bla bla". Anyway other properties of the "MyTitle2" style will be correctly reflected (as far as I can tell). To have the proper numbering you will have to play with "up a level/down a level" arrows from the "bullets and numbering" toolbar. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
