When two shapes are too close together, elbow connectors get routed off page in
great loops. I had a set of diagrams originally drawn in OpenOffice 2, where I
had no problems. When I opened them in 3.1, all diagrams were messed up. An
example document, together with a JPG of how it looks, is attached.

I tried to determine the exact conditions when it happens, but couldn't quite
define them. It seems to be that the problem is when two shapes are placed too
close, for example, if the connector needs to be in an almost straight line. But
whether the connector gets routed off the page or not seems to randomly depend
on small variations in distance and angle between shapes.
