------- Additional comments from [email protected] Fri Jun 25 16:48:45 +0000 2010 ------- The following information from Disk Utility about the file system might be relevant: Format : Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) I tried to open the file from the Desktop by double-clicking on it. I get the following error message: /Users/steve/Desktop/BP Marktübersicht.odt does not exist. I changed the name of the file to Ätsch.odt and got the same message ("Ätsch" instead of "BP Marktübersicht", of course). I get the same error if I try to open the file via File > Open or the introductory "Open a document..." or from the command line via "open Ätsch.odt". If I create an empty text document and try to save it as "Ätsch.odt", a file called "%C4tsch.odt" is created. Double-clicking on that opens the file correctly. In System Preferences > International > Language, I have the following settings: British English English Deutsch Français ... (several others) In Terminal, LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 . I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8 on an Intel iMac 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo with 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
