never mind, I figured it out.
I had v3.2 installed, then removed it before installed v3.1 from RedHat. The
preferences in the my $HOME/.openoffice.org hidden directory needed to be
removed before I could successfully run v3.1
I wish I could installed v 3.2 or 3.3, but every time I do an update from RH,
it messes things up on the newer version. I opted to start fresh with only the
version on RH's download services.
