When you added to newer version of hsqldb.jar to classpath it will be used not
version shipped with OOo. It will be used when you open odb file with built-in
hsqldb.
In your case the OOo 3.3 use shipped hsqldb vesion and OOo 3.1.1 use newer
version this cause your problem.
The odb file you added to this issue, contain hsqldb 1.8.1 version in properties
file. It a mark that it was open in OOo using hsqldb 1.8.1.x version instead of
1.8.0.x which was shipped with OOo 3.x.
To avoid this situation never used never hsqldb than built-in 1.8.0.10, as
external server.
