We tested the issue on PC using Windows XP Pro SP2, OpenOffice Build 1.9.125
language English.

We played around with the attachment submitted by alcher and here are some test
cases where AutoFilter behaves oddly. We reloaded (File->Reload) the document
between each test.

Tests on PC OpenOffice English build 1.9.125

Test 1:

1) Select a field with AutoFilter (ex. C2) by clicking on it once
2)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)
Result: All of the AutoFilters disappeared
Expected: Only C2 AutoFilter should be removed

Test 2:

1) Select a field with AutoFilter (ex. C2) by clicking on it once when
holding
down ctrl
2)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)
Result: All of the AutoFilters disappeared
Expected: Only C2 AutoFilter should be removed

Test 3:

1) Select two fields that have AutoFilters that are next to each other (ex.
B2:C2) (using shift, ctrl or just mouse dragging)
2)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)

Result: AutoFilters at B2 and C2 disappeared
Expected: AutoFilters at B2 and C2 disappeared

Test 4:

1) Follow steps in test 3
2) Select a cell with AutoFilter present (ex. A2)
3)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)
Result: AutoFilters at B2 and C2 returned
Expected:       AutoFilter at A2 disappeared

Test 5:
1) Follow steps in test 3
2) Select another set of 2 cells that have AutoFilter that are next to each
other (ex. D2:E2)
3)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)
4)      Press ctrl+z (or top menu Edit->Undo)
5)      Press ctrl+z (or top menu Edit->Undo)

Result: AutoFilter for B2:C2 returned, but AutoFilter for D2:E2 didn’t
Expected:       AutoFilters for B2:E2 returned

Test 6:

1)      Select A2 and C2 (don’t select B2)
2) Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter), but the word AutoFilter is
grayed
out and is not a function that can be selected.

Test 7:

1)      Select B2:E2
2)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)
3)      Select A2:B2
4)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)
5) Got error message “AutoFilter not possible”, press ok
6)      Select B2:C2
7)      Click top menu (Data->Filter->AutoFilter)

Result:         AutoFilter in A2 disappeared
Expected: Don’t really know what to expect

We tried making an excel file (Microsoft Excel 2003 Professional “Excel
file.xls” – attached by us) and importing it to Calc to replicate the issues we
found playing with the file alcher attached. We managed to replicate tests 1-6.
Test 7 acted similar but failed to reproduce the same results.

We do not know if any of those behaviors are bugs. We hope these test cases will
help shed some light on alcher’s problem. Thought this may not be a bug the
issue creates a some what frustrating user interface, in the fact that the
behavior isn’t always consistent, meaning in cases where you expect some columns
to have auto filtering to be enabled they will either disable the columns or
disable every auto filter. This issue is not critical but is more of an
inconvenience to the user that is migrating from Microsoft Excel.
