Perhaps the reason that 14.04 was chosen was because it was the latest LTS version. Is 16.04 labeled as LTS?

Currently it is at Ubuntu 14.04. Internally we are already using either 15.04 or 16.04 on our development systems, so I believe it will mainly be a matter of updating the documentation.
