Core Committers, Carrie and I have discussed moving our recommended/base Linux development platform to Ubuntu 16.04. Currently it is at Ubuntu 14.04. Internally we are already using either 15.04 or 16.04 on our development systems, so I believe it will mainly be a matter of updating the documentation.
