Larry,

Many thanks for the information. I'm just a retired chemist with a minor in
botany that's almost 50 years out of date. I would love to be able to
subject the hybrid to genetic marker technology, but don't have access to
the lab anymore. However, I'm also very interested in the hybrid between
Castilleja rhexiifolia and C. occidentalis that I noted on Logan Pass in
Glacier Park. It's a gorgeous thing with distal (tipped), bicolor (violet
and white) bracts. Unfortunately, my last 2 years of attempts to grow C.
occidentalis have been miserable; whereas, C. rhexiifolia enjoys my garden
quite well.

Cheers,

Dave Nelson

Subject: Re: [Alpine-l] Penstemon Hybrid?

I found them in figure 4 near the bottom

P. strictus should hybridize with P. vigatis, P. eatonii, and P.
stritiformis.

It also should work with the diploid (8 chromosome) form of P. sucundiflorus
