Thanks so much for the references.  I was aware of Hersch-Green's work, but
Tank's work is new to me.  This puts a better perspective on the situation.
I think the systematists should have been driven crazy by now with the
breakup of Scrophulariacea.  Incidentally, C. occidentalis survives about 1
year in my garden, but C. sulphurea loves the conditions.  So much for high
elevation paintbrush at 300 ft.

This list them by sub-genus.  Those in the same subgenus should cross.
Between sub-genera there might be no seed or the seed may not grow or some
may lack chlorophyll.  Since they are hemi-parasitic white may not be a
problem.

There are white Ericaeae.  Monotropa which had been a fungus is now a white
plant living with Lactarius or Russula.
