Anne, This plant is found at fairly high elevation where I have seen it. That would be around 7000 to 8000 feet. It seems to inhabit rocky ridge lines where there will be late snow banks. The soil that I have found it in was decomposed granite with very little (or none) organic matter. This is a fairly small lewesia compared to say, L. rediviva. I was able to collect a few seeds that I tossed into the rock garden when I got home. This plant flowers and sets seed very early, I completely missed getting seeds the first year I looked for them. I noticed that a couple of them have come to life as of yesterday, we shall see how they do--- if I can keep the cut worms off them.
