What an appropriate name for a newly described Lewisia!

Anne,
This plant is found at fairly high elevation where I have seen it. That would
be
around 7000 to 8000 feet. It seems to inhabit rocky ridge lines where there
will
be late snow banks. The soil that I have found it in was decomposed granite
with very little (or none) organic matter. This is a fairly small lewesia
compared to say, L. rediviva. I was able to collect a few seeds that I tossed
into the rock garden when I got home. This plant flowers and sets seed very
early, I completely missed getting seeds the first year I looked for them. I
noticed that a couple of them have come to life as of yesterday, we shall see
how they do--- if I can keep the cut worms off them.

I am sort of curious to know if other folks on the Alpine list have this newly
described species, Lewisia sacajaweana in cultivation. The type is found at
rather high elevation in the Boise National Forest of central Idaho(Sawtooth
Mountain range). Genetic analysis of the collected material has determined that
it is sufficiently separate from L. Kelloggii to be a separate species. Here
is
a picture taken by the botanist that described the species(a forest service
biologist).
