If you have time while you are in Nottingham for the conference you might like
to take in a visit to Sherwood Forest (supposedly 'home' of Robin Hood) and see
the Major Oak, probably the most famous tree in Britain. It is not far from the
city and there are trips there by public transport if you do not have a car.

used to have the responsibility of lookiing after this tree, which was a
lucrative contract but with the downside that he spent sleepless nights when
the tree looked ill or lost its leaves prematurely, sometimes as a result of
vandals lighting fires in the immense hollow trunk!
