Name: Hesperocallis undulata
Note: Hesperocallis undulata (Ajo Lily) is one of the most
spectacular spring-blooming wildflowers of the Mojave Desert. This photo was
taken March 2, 2011. It stands about 12 to 18 inches tall and likes sandy
soil. Its specific epithet (undulata) refers to its unusual wavy, or
undulating, leaves. Keeping company with Ajo Lily is Abronia villosa (Sand
Verbena).
