These name changes are out of control. I’m pretty much ignoring them.
The USDA website is apparently unaware of the change back to Cornus.
It’s funny (funny ha-ha) that with all this name-changing based on who knows
what that botanists think that a plant native to Colorado and also native to
northern Myanmar (still waiting for the change back to Burma)is the same
species. I’d be willing to bet any amount of money, up to and including $1.00
US, that plants from populations of both places are genetically distinct in
ways that are important to plants and would not accept pollen from each other
if grown side by side.
