Hi,

I am experiencing problems with the soundcard on my Satellite 3000.
The soundcard installed is an intel8x0. The first problem is that from
time to time the soundcard is not recognized at all:

> Sep 21 21:47:16 noise kernel: ALSA ac97_codec.c:1371: AC'97 does not respond - RESET
> Sep 21 21:47:16 noise kernel: ALSA card-intel8x0.c:1141: Intel ICH soundcard not
>found or device busy

If it works the volume is very low. Unmuting everything and turning it
to 100% volume just gives very low sound (only audiable through the
headphone). Despite of this recording works fine.

I tried everything from new kernels (2.4.3 2.4.8 and 2.4.9) and
different versions of alsa (0.5 thru 0.9).

Perhaps its an IRQ problem. The soundcard shares its IRQ with three
other devices (thats what dmesg says).

Does anyone have similar problems or any solutions to this?

If I use the kernel driver (i8xx driver) the playback of sound works
fine, but recording does not work properly. It seems I have the
choice: either recording or playback :-(

Thanx for any help,
  Georg
