Hi, I've just been wondering as to what is the current achievable latency
with the latest alsa driver (0.9.8beta) when it comes to MIDI data? I do
understand that kernel plays an important role in this so, my question
pertains to the 2.4.8 kernel and up. Also, is there any plans to introduce
low-latency patches into the 2.5.x kernels as a part of the kernel (I heard
a rumour somewhere regarding this one, but haven't heard anything about it
since)? Finally, what is currently the best latency achievable when doing
DSP stuff (again all these questions pertain to both consumer grade pci
soundcards as well as top-of-the-line ones, such as RME's Hammerfall -- I'd
greatly appreciate it if someone could maybe give an example for both
situations). Thanks!

Also, as far as I remember reading about this aspect of Linux OS the last
time, latencies were already then extremely good, and I think that for
advertising sakes, ALSA developers and webmasters should post those results
in a flashy slogan on the front page of the alsa-project webpage. This would
surely grab commercial software developer's attention!

Finally, is there a reliable app which could be used to measure these
latencies?

Any help regarding these issues would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely,

Ico Bukvic, composer
