I think that this discussion is useless. If you want, you may cover the
plughw:CARD,DEV,SUBDEV or hw:CARD,DEV,SUBDEV devices in your program. But
the alsa-lib design assumes that user can definitely choose any device, so
passing a string with device name from the user is a definite must for a
good ALSA app.
