We simply don't see a room in our implementation for the callback based
API. Yes, we can implement synchronously executed API on top of the
current, device access based, API, but we have no power (being busy with
maintaince and improvements of hardware drivers and current alsa-lib) to
extend our goals.

I'm ommiting discussion about questionable efficiency of a callback based
API in unix environment here.
