Hi.

I have a problem with Yamaha DS-XG PCI (YMF724) and floppy.

When I access floppy while ALSA modules are loaded, my computer
completely locks (SysRq magic key doesn't work, ping doesn't work either)
and I must cold-reboot machine (no error message appears on console
or syslog).

When I unload alsa modules, floppy works fine.
This behaviour is reproducible using any combination of kernels
2.2.x - 2.4.17 and alsa 0.5.x - 0.9.0beta10a.
Doesn't matter if OSS emulation is used or not, or if floppy
is used as module or compiled into kernel.

Problem doesn't occur when I use kernel's OSS drivers (which I don't
like and anyhow will be replaced by alsa in 2.5.x kernels).

I've tried to compare /proc/ioports, /proc/interrupts, /proc/dma,
/proc/devices, /proc/iomem
when using floppy and when using alsa, but no conflicts appear.
(floppy IRQ is 6, YMF IRQ is 10...). Tell me what info do you need
(and how to get it) and I'll send it.

I have this exact problem confirmed from another person
(but soundchip YMF740C [DS-1L] SigmaTel STAC9704 rev. 3,
and various vendor kernels from Redhat, Mandrake and SuSE)

Thanks for any help
                               Miroslav Kure
