I am also having the same problem with my Via 8233 onboard audio chip. I am running the same version of ALSA, in addition, I am running RedHat Linux 7.2. Since both of us have it, it sounds like it isn't a board based problem.
Also is it normal to not be able to play two sounds at one time?
