Hey there!

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-F430 Laptop, and it comes with a Yamaha DS-1S
(identified in /proc/pci as YMF-744B) but I'm having some problems making it
work under Linux.

My system is a Slakware 8.0 recently installed, running with a 2.4.5 kernel
(the same problems also happened with Debian 2.2rev4 running the 2.2.19
kernel). My version of Alsa is 0.5.12a (the lastest stable release)

I can compile alsa-drivers with the (--with-sequencer=yes
--with-cards=ymfpci) options without any problems, and the modules gets
correctly installed in their right places. However, I can't hear any sound
from it. After loading the modules with "modprobe snd-card-ymfpci", I can't
set the volumes with alsamixer (it gives a "failed to open mixer #0/#0").
amixer says that the "Alsa Sound driver was not detected on this system)

I have a filesystem at /proc/asound/ including a card1/ and 0/ dirs (that I
believe are relative to my card)
The output of /proc/asound/sndstat says:
---
Card config:
Yamaha DS-XG PCI (YMF744) at 0xfedf8000, irq 9

Audio devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices:
0: MPU-401 (UART)

Timers:
7: System timer

Mixers: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
---

Something tells me that this is wrong, but I don't know why
(I have this with the Slak 8.0 stock kernel and with one compiled by myself,
with sound support compiled as a module or included in the kernel)

The sound card works flawlessly under Windows (and even in the Laptop
inicialization)
PNP is disabled in the BIOS too.

I think that it is possible to have sound support on this laptop (at least
the http://www.de-srv.com/linux/sonyF450.html howto told me that the Alsa
drivers worked)

Any help is deeply welcomed (and I can provide you with any logs you want)

Thanks a lot!

Best regards,
