Hopefully :-)

While you're playing back a file in alsaplayer, start up alsamixer in a
terminal and check your mixer settings.  Make sure that "3D Control -
Switch" and "3D Control Sigmatel - Rear Depth" aren't muted.  Also check
to see what volume "Surround" and "Wave" are set to.  If any of them are
low, try increasing them gradually. :-)

And, finally, if that doesn't work, make sure that all of your speakers
are physically setup properly :-)
