-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi,
I'm trying to run TWO Soundcards, my older Terratec Base II PCI (es1938) and a via686a onboard one. Since I added my via686a, my sound doesn't work any more. Additionally, I guess that It never worked right - It seems that for example arts wasn't abel to communicate with alsa, it was only able to play sound using the oss driver. But let me tell you my experiences: Module Size Used by Tainted: P snd-card-via686a 7820 0 (unused) snd-ac97-codec 25036 0 [snd-card-via686a] snd-mpu401-uart 3932 0 [snd-card-via686a] snd-rawmidi 14976 0 [snd-mpu401-uart] snd-card-es1938 14284 0 (autoclean) snd-pcm 61792 0 (autoclean) [snd-card-via686a snd-card-es1938] snd-opl3 7180 0 (autoclean) [snd-card-es1938] snd-hwdep 4928 0 (autoclean) [snd-opl3] snd-seq-device 4556 0 (autoclean) [snd-rawmidi snd-opl3] snd-timer 13420 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm snd-opl3] snd 35400 0 [snd-card-via686a snd-ac97-codec snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-card-es1938 snd-pcm snd-opl3 snd-hwdep snd-seq-device snd-timer] - --- Apr 28 13:50:52 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:07.5 Apr 28 13:50:52 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 9 with 00:0a.0 Apr 28 13:51:00 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:0a.0 Apr 28 13:51:00 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 9 with 00:07.5 Apr 28 13:51:00 jtheuer kernel: ALSA control.c:598: unknown ioctl = 0x80044100 Apr 28 13:53:21 jtheuer kernel: ALSA control.c:598: unknown ioctl = 0x80044100 Apr 28 13:53:23 jtheuer kernel: ALSA control.c:598: unknown ioctl = 0x80044100 Apr 28 13:59:39 jtheuer kernel: ALSA control.c:598: unknown ioctl = 0x80044100 Apr 28 14:00:56 jtheuer kernel: ALSA control.c:598: unknown ioctl = 0x80044100 Apr 28 14:05:12 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:0a.0 Apr 28 14:05:12 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 9 with 00:07.5 Apr 28 14:05:12 jtheuer kernel: ALSA control.c:598: unknown ioctl = 0x80044100 Apr 28 14:06:05 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:0a.0 Apr 28 14:06:05 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 9 with 00:07.5 Apr 28 14:06:05 jtheuer kernel: ALSA control.c:598: unknown ioctl = 0x80044100 Apr 28 14:12:22 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:07.5 Apr 28 14:12:22 jtheuer kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 9 with 00:0a.0 - --- jtheuer@jtheuer:~$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:602:(snd_pcm_hw_open) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_PVERSION failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device aplay: main:446: audio open error: Inappropriate ioctl for device - --- alias char-major-116 snd alias char-major-14 soundcore options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=2 snd_device_mode=0666 snd_device_gid=29 snd_device_uid=0 alias snd-card-0 snd-card-es1938 alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd-card-es1938 snd_index=0 snd_id=ESS-SOLO-1 alias snd-card-1 snd-card-via686a alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1 alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-1-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-1-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd-card-via686a snd_index=1 snd_id=VIA686a snd_mpu_port=0x330 - --- My problem is: I'm not shure, wether it is the right driver (es1938), because it doesn't seems to have been working the right way. And I don't know, how to get both cards running. I can select several options in my BIOS, some sound-blaster stuff, mpu401 ports and so on. I got both cards working a bit, but not very well, that means maybe just oss was working or only the soundoutput and not the microphone, etc. I'm looking for a clean way ;-) Additionally, could it be a problem, that both cards uses the same irq?
