I have an embedded PC with ESS Solo 1 audio on
the board. Many experiments with the standard
linux drivers and OSS drivers caused all kinds
of problems. Installing ALSA 0.9rc1 seems to
have fixed almost everything.

I have tested duplex operation and it works,
I do playback and recording at the same time.
The two problems I have are this

- Whenever I try to do 44.1 khz 16-bit stereo
recording, the system freezes. I have to do
a reboot. I can do 44.1 khz mono fine but
2-channel recording always locks the machine.
I have tried this with arecord and no oss
emulation, also with rec (sox) with the oss
snd-pcm-oss driver. Same experience on both.

This is a freshly compiled 2.4.18 kernel on
slackware 8 and ALSA and everything else was
compiled from source. Any ideas? Is anyone
else doing CD quality recording on es1938?

- The other issue is midi. The midi modules
seem to load fine, but I haven't been able
to playback midi files. When I try to use
playmidi I get an error /dev/sequencer not
find. Do I need to use an ALSA midi player?
Or am I just missing something?

TIA,
Doug
