I'm looking at my ES1373 card (using ens1371), and I see that there is a slider called "Capture". Maybe that needs to be turned up so that capturing works? BTW, the "Mic Boost" slider is just that "Mic Boost (+20dB)" thing, just the (+20dB) part is cut off. If you want to hear the microphone over the speakers make sure the 'Mic' slider is up too.
