Howdy folks, I decided to understand ALSA's sequencer today, but had a bit of a problem. It appears that using aplay or doing a 'cat /dev/sequencer' causes my system to freeze completely. This is with an ad1816 (Terratec base-1) card. Anyone else experience similar problems before I leap into the problem more deeply. Playing with the midi stuff appears to work fine; also, the CVS version of Rosegarden doesn't have any problems because it has its own sequencer and just interfaces with midi devices directly.
I'm using kernel 2.5.20 with its built-in ALSA drivers and the utilities from 0.9r1. I diffed the driver from ALSA CVS and the one I'm using, and they appear to be the same.
