Hi,
I have succesfully installed the USB creative extigy using alsa. It
works fine, but recording poses a problem. I only record an empty sound
file, no matter how I adjust the mixer settings. My question is send to
this mailing list, because I noticed alsa creates a lot of mixers. I
used the programs "rec", "ecasound", "gamix" to no avail. Gamix seems to
be the best mixer representing the alsa mixer devices. I am able to hear
the mic and line-in signals by controlling various mixers:
PCM Capture2, PCM Capture 3, I can even mix them real time, switch them
of etc.

I don't realy know how alsa sound works, but if I hear sound through
the mixer, i am albe to switch input sound off and on, I should
theoretically be able to record it through /dev/dsp. Can I also access a
certain channel? Do I have to use a different device? Is there a trick?
Is it because the MIC mixer is not called MIC but PCM Capture?

More in general, is there something I have missed?

Regards,
Robert
