I recently became a ALSA convert, and have generally been pleased w/its features. However, I have some legacy apps which require OSS support.
XMMS works fine, as I have installed ALSA 0.9 output plugin (libALSA.so), but I have not been able to get sound from AIM, Realplayer, and mplayer. In fact, RealPlayer locks up when I attempt to grab an audio stream. These are critical apps, as I routinely view VCD and listen to online radio. I suspect that the issue is related to KDE and its sound manager. However, system/events sounds work well and w/ full-duplex with XMMS. My platform: Ensoniq CT880/SB 128PCI Slackware 8.0(2.4.14) KDE 2.1.1 Please see the modules which get loaded into the running kernel: Module Size Used by snd-pcm-oss 45792 0 (unused) snd-mixer-oss 11600 0 [snd-pcm-oss] snd-ens1371 11856 3 snd-pcm 57760 1 [snd-pcm-oss snd-ens1371] snd-timer 12144 0 [snd-pcm] snd-rawmidi 13952 0 [snd-ens1371] snd-seq-device 4096 0 [snd-rawmidi] snd-ac97-codec 23568 0 [snd-ens1371] snd 32688 6 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-ens1371 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec] Does anyone have any ideas?
